The Divemaster course is the first level for professionals. Upon successful completion of the course in accordance with EN 14153-3, the candidate obtains a certificate and a diving card, which proves the diver's qualification and membership in the PSS as a "professional". The DIVEMASTER course represents an important transition point in a diver's career. Previously, the diver was responsible only for himself and co-responsible for his partner. After the DIVEMASTER course, however, the diver takes responsibility for the safety and entertainment of all the graduate divers he/she accompanies on the dive. Finally, the DIVEMASTER may be designated to assist the diving instructor during the delivery of recreational courses. Here, assisting means substituting for him at certain special moments in the supervision of classes where students are in the water for the first time. As with any other professional level, annual renewal confirmation is required to maintain the DIVEMASTER qualification.
